KenJo Markets and Hardee’s Restaurants Raise over $73,000 to Help the Kidney Foundation

A total of $73, 332.00 was raised in the KenJo / Hardee’s Savings Book Campaign this year. On Thursday, July 9, 2009, 9:30 a.m. at the KenJo Market at Pellissippi KenJo Markets and Hardee’s Restaurants presented their checks to the National Kidney Foundation Serving East Tennesse. This is the 5th year KenJo Markets has conducted the fund raising event. This year KenJo raised a remarkable $52,526 to help kidney patients in East Tennessee. Hardee’s Restaurants partnered with KenJo and for the second year and raised an outstanding $20,806 to help those battling kidney diseases in East Tennessee.

“The amazing thing is that this money was raised one dollar at a time by those who bought Savings Books at 35 area KenJo Markets and 45 area Hardee’s Restaurants,” said Helen Harb, Division President of the National Kidney Foundation Serving East Tennessee. “The KenJo / Hardee’s Savings Book Campaign is a wonderful example of how small gifts given by many can become enormous,” she said. “We are so grateful to KenJo and Hardee’s for offering the savings books to their customers. And, we are so thankful for all of the KenJo and Hardee’s customers who said “yes” when asked to buy a savings book to help those battling kidney diseases.

The KenJo check was given by Charles W. (Wes) Carruthers, Jr., President of Downey Oil Co. / KenJo Markets. The Hardee’s check was given by Pate Fee, Marketing Associate, Hardee’s Restaurants.

“The funds raised from the KenJo / Hardee’s Savings Book Campaign will be used to provide programs that enhance the lives of everyone with, at risk of or affected by kidney disease.” said Craig Horsley, Chief Volunteer Officer of the National Kidney Foundation Serving East Tennessee. “The continued support of our generous and caring community will ensure that we are able to continue to provide these life-saving programs.”

The National Kidney Foundation Serving East Tennessee works for, cares about, and represents thousands of East Tennesseans, from the child waiting for a kidney transplant to the mother battling with diabetes and high blood pressure to the grandfather on dialysis. The National Kidney Foundation Serving East Tennessee works hard to prevent kidney disease, improve the health and well-being of patients and families affected by these diseases and increase the availability of all organs for transplantation.
